It was on this day two years ago that DCist came to be, product of the inspired minds of founding editors Rob Goodspeed and Mike Grass. Or, if you’re one of those creation adherents, it was sixteen days ago that some divine power willed us into existence. Either way, we’re turning two today.
More than 5300 posts and 40,000 comments later, we’re getting a little slower, a little moodier, and a little more defensive about the young whipper-snappers that periodically try to move in on our territory. But we’re all desperately trying to keep it fresh, because as some of us reach the forced retirement age of 29 (no one blogs after that), snark, wit, and incisive observations come much less often. But as long as Marion Barry sticks around, we won’t be short on material.
And in the spirit of Butterstick, we’ve bought ourselves a baby pool, a volleyball, and a huge fruitsicle. Well, we’re actually hosting the fourth installment of our musical showcase, Unbuckled, next Thursday, September 14 at DC9. We hope you can all make it.
Of course, this wouldn’t be possible without you, the reader. You give us tips, spellcheck our work, offer us everything from high-fives to constructive advice like “Go to hell you freedom-hating urbanites,” and help us in our slow march towards conquering media supremacy in the Washington region. Thanks.
