If your parents have a record collection, or you’ve ever read a countdown list, or if you’ve seen Almost Famous, or if you’ve generally got a sense of rock history, you know that The Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds is one of the most important, critically acclaimed, and talked about albums in music history. The album’s landmark 40th anniversary recently rolled around. In commemoration, the album has been re-released, featuring original and remastered versions of the songs and has a DVD telling the album’s story.

Given the opportunity to discuss the pop masterpiece, the internet has gone haywire. A dedicated 40th anniversary blog, a controversial Beach Boys/Beatles mash up album, the requisite of-course-we-love-it-but-have-to-be-snarky-about-it-anyway Pitchfork review, and its very own Podcast are a few examples of the fervor surrounding the anniversary. While we’re clearly big fans of talking about music till we can’t talk no more, we love the real live deal even more.

That’s why we were speechless when brooklynvegan tipped us off that D.C. will be one of the cities on a short list of destinations for Brian Wilson’s upcoming Pet Sounds tour. This November the troubled genuis behind The Beach Boys will perform the album in its entirety in a few US and UK cities. So, mark your calendars for November 18. God only knows where the show will be (location TBD). (That pun was just too easy. We had to.) Roll up your sleeves and prepare to fight your parents for tickets.
