Sometimes in the relentless assault of the commenters in a thread on
a DCist music review, the complaint is made that the reviewer takes too
many words to try to prove how much they know about the band.
Well, we’re going to try to preempt that here. Going to see the Art
Brut show at the Black Cat on Tuesday night, I’ll be the first to
admit: I knew zero about the band, its history, its songs. In fact, my
knowledge of Art Brut might have even been negative in its amount.
But I’d gone on the eager recommendations of several friends who said
that when Art Brut came through the Black Cat on their last jaunt that
it was one of the best, funnest, most energetic shows they’d ever seen.
With nothing to do on a Tuesday night post Veronica Mars-watching, why
shouldn’t I go? Plus, last time we neglected to write about Art Brut,
So I went. And I can’t fill you in here on what were the names of
the songs they played, or what band member did what crazy antics,
because honestly, my ignorance about the band, as shameful as it may
be, still perists. But I can tell you that Art Brut put on, as they
say, one hell of the show. Go see them if you get the chance.
Anyway, instead of attempting to talk about further about things I know
nothing about, why not give you some comments straight from Argos’
mouth? We were able to grab him after the show and ask him some
whiskey-fueled questions about everything from his lack of a moustache
to that ageless question – what does he think of the D.C. crowd? What
follows are some choice tidbits – or, rather, what we managed to
scribble down in our notebook.
