Dear John: The Red Room at the Black Cat
At the Black Cat, it’s still cash-only, PBRs are cheap, and the bathrooms, well, look dubious. But upon closer examination, the facilities come with enough bells and whistles that the discerning bathroom-goer will find much to admire.

McFadden’s Tops List of Douchiest Bars in D.C.
McFadden’s doesn’t have the best drinks, nor does it serve the best food. It doesn’t even have the best ambiance. But according to one city guide, it is the douchiest bar in D.C.

Out and About: Weekend Picks
FRIDAY: >> By far one of the most fun bar nights in town is always where ever the Guerrilla Queer Bar Takeover kids end up — the mingling of gays and straights in D.C. ever a combination as terriffic as chili and cheese. So you can bet we’ll be swinging by to celebrate the Third Anniversary of the Guerrilla Queer Bar Takeover at Black Cat tonight. The takeover starts in the Red Room at 9…

Photo of the Day: December 22, 2006
Furcafe’s shot of Yazuzu (Red Room 2.0, anyone?) is putting us in the holiday spirit with its vibrant red colors and interesting curves and lines. Exif data. Other shots we noticed included the Exorcist stairs and Eastern Market holiday cheer. And just as a friendly reminder: Get your photos into the DCist Exposed pool! Beck? Backstage at the Black Cat? Hell Yes!
While the rest of the country was at home on their couches watching Beck Hansen perform on the David Letterman show, around 150 people were getting loose with him live and in person in the tiny Backstage area of the Black Cat. Music Tidbits
Tour News So, you’re bummed that Arctic Monkeys tickets sold out. So are we. Nobody’s gonna have any idea how we look on the dance floor, and we find that upsetting. But we’re picking ourselves up and dusting ourselves off, because one monolith of an indie tour, two much anticipated bands and a couple other cool shows are coming to a venue nearby. The big tour announcement of the week goes to the power-bill of…

Concert Review: Supersystem @ The Black Cat
Written by DCist Music Contributor Jim Smalley. With all the eating and drinking these past few weeks, we were looking to burn off some of the extra holiday flub. Which is why we were excited to check out D.C. electronic dancepunkers Supersystem on Saturday night at the Black Cat. Following up openers Ris-Paul-Ric and French Toast , supersystem – formerly on Dischord Records as El Guapo – took their home stage before a full house…

Jukebox Politics
The City Paper has an enjoyable cover story about the slow disappearance of jukeboxes in D.C., and how jukebox junkies are reacting.Today, D.C. Vending operates about 125 jukeboxes, about half of them in bodegas and other Latin-music joints. “They stopped playing music like they used to,” Tom says. “There’s not as many ‘Cheers’ around….That’s given way to the T.G.I. Friday’s, the big places.” The big places like to supply the music for free, via a…
