FRIDAY:

The DAM! Festival doesn’t start until next weekend, but the organizers rightfully want you to be psyched for it to start already. They’re hosting a Kickoff Party tonight at the Rock and Roll Hotel, with Exit Clov, The Dance Party, Dirty on Purpose (pictured), and DJ Geologist (who we interviewed earlier this week). $9 gets you in the door.

>> Reel Affirmations, the D.C. area’s Annual Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered film festival, wraps up this weekend. The remaining films, including The Gymnanst, Yaji and Kita: The Midnight Pilgrims, small town gay bar, and Puccini for Beginners will be showing tonight and tomorrow at the Lincoln Theatre, 1215 U Street, NW. Check out the Reel Affirmations Web site for showtimes and ticket availability.(Christopher Durocher)

SATURDAY:

>> It’s time for the annual Clarendon Day street festival, from noon to 7 p.m. It’s, you know, a street fair. Expect ethnic food on sticks and craft booths. The featured band Soldiers of Jah Army, which is, of course, some sort of roots/reggae outfit.

>> If you’d like to meet Hill staffers or former fraternity and sorority members, or just wear a big hat, head over to the Gold Cup on Saturday in The Plains, Virginia. People dress up nice and get drunk, and there’s some horse races, too. (Andrew Wiseman)

>> Red Bull has been hosting these Flugtag competitions in cities all over the country for at least a few years, but if you’ve never been to one before, it’s worth heading to Baltimore this weekend to catch the silliness of it all. Teams from all over the world will be bringing their homemade, human-powered flying machines to a 25-foot ramp above Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, and jumping off. If you go, make sure to take some photos and tag with DCist on Flickr so we can giggle along with you. Gates open at 11 a.m., first “flight” at 1 p.m.

SUNDAY:

>> The ubiquitous Kronos Quartet will be playing the music of German industrial band Einsturzende Neubauten, along with a four-part piece from Michael Gordon’s The Sad Park, which features recordings made between September 2001 and January 2002 of children from the University Plaza Nursery School in Lower Manhattan. 7 p.m. GW’s Lisner Auditorium. Tickets are $35, $30, and $25. (Matt Sedlar)
