Transformer isn’t the only gallery putting on its little black dress and collecting alms for art these days. Those of you with a little cash in hand, looking to fill your civic duty by supporting the arts and partying the night away have two more bashes to choose from.
Tonight, put on your dancing shoes and swing over to the Corcoran for ArtCentric 2006. The annual event features live music, performance art, and an auction with work by local artists. After you’ve taken a break to stuff yourself at the high-class buffet, take a stroll around the gallery, as the regular exhibits will all be open for guests. Check the Web site for ticket prices, and since it’s probably too late to register online, give them a call at 202-639-1753. The party runs from 8:30 p.m. to midnight.
Next Saturday, Transformer has some competition from The Phillips Collection, which is holding its Black & White Ball from 8 p.m. to midnight. Sponsored by The Contemporaries, a group of young professionals who encourage art collecting, the party promises to be a swanky array of food, drink, and art, held this year at the Hotel Palomar in Dupont Circle. The funds raised from the event will go to acquiring a modern photography piece for the museum’s permanent collection. Regular and VIP tickets are still available, so give them a call at 202-387-2151 x311 or contact jmoskowitz [at] phillipscollection [dot] org to claim a pair. And really, what price is too high for an evening with hot art-loving dudes in tuxes?
