Vincent Orange, fighting Kwame Brown for Gray’s seat, went with a smaller Cadillac SUV than his competitor. What, he couldn’t afford an orange paint job?

Planning on heading to the movies this Saturday night? Mind taking your camera with you? It seems that a group of lonely singles in the D.C. area are planning on finding each other at the multiplex this weekend, having previously announced their intention to don a white hat to signify their status as being “available.” The plan was announced and discussed on Frank Warren’s popular PostSecret blog:

This Saturday evening I will be waiting for you too. This invitation does not mean that I want to do anything or talk during the movie. But when the darkness leaves the theatre, perhaps we will look into each other’s eyes, smile, decide to get a cup of coffee and share a conversation over what we just saw.

Subject: movies/white hats

i have a white hat that i don’t like very much. but i’ll be wearing it every saturday night i happen to be at the movies (alone). spread it around; if you’re going to the movies alone, wear a white hat. if you see someone with a white hat, ask them how they are, and if they visit postsecret.

Frank tells DCist he’s been receiving a large number of similar emails, trying to spread the word that this “white hat means available” movement is happening at theaters in the D.C. area. Have you seen anyone with a white hat at the movies? Who even owns a white hat, and for that matter, who doesn’t know that wearing any sort of hat at the movies goes against all movie-going ettiquite? Though we suppose getting the opportunity to stealthily check out a potential date in person first is a step up from the Craigslist scene.
