Everyone must be finishing up their holiday shopping this weekend, because arts events are a little few and far between, but we’ve got your weekend warm-up for you:
>> If you haven’t yet trekked to one of the many local venues that have featured artist Amy Lin, it’s time to clear your Friday evening schedule and head down to the DCAC in Adams Morgan. The space will show Obsession, curated by Anne Collins Goodyear, an assistant curator at the National Portrait Gallery. Lin turns her precise, obsessively perfect dots into colorful, lively drawings that give the air of free-form spontaneity (pictured). The opening reception is tomorrow from 7 to 9 p.m, with a short talk by Goodyear at 8 p.m.
>> Coffee table book lovers unite! And meet at Hemphill this weekend for an open house and book sale. Fine art book publisher Nazraeli Press will be set up in the gallery for your perusal, along with some wine and hot cider to warm your winter-chilled bones. Check it out tomorrow night from 5 to 7 p.m. and Saturday noon to 5 p.m.
>> You can keep it going all night Friday by hitting up the Latin American Youth Center’s Art and Media House from 8 to 11 p.m. Artists Aniekan Udofia and Tanekeya Word have some fantastic paintings up on the wall, and tomorrow they’ll be complimented by poetry and spoken word performances, beats by Hip Hop Matters, and plenty of cocktails. $10.
