It falls to me to fill in for our peerless Arts Editor for the next few weeks. Don’t worry: DCist Heather will be back soon! Being the end of December, there is not much for me to mention, since the whole city is being shuttered for Christmas. If I miss something, help me out in the comments section.
>> Art Enables moved to a new location in NE and has been open for about a month. This organization helps artistically inclined adults with developmental and/or mental disabilities by matching them up with professional artists for regular instruction. If you are looking for an excellent cause to support with a holiday donation, look no further: go buy some art. They have Art Enables 2007 calendars and holiday cards for sale, too. (411 New York Ave. NE)
>> Opening today at Marsha Mateyka is Aline Feldman: Whiteline and Watercolor (December 20 through January 13). The show features some of Feldman’s recent woodcuts of local scenes. (2012 R St. NW)
>> On Thursday, you can attend an Artful Evening at the Phillips Collection (December 21, 5 to 8:30 p.m.) There will be lectures on “Abstract Painting from Man Ray to Mondrian” (6 and 7 p.m.), but the highlight is a screening of Fritz Lang’s apocalyptic vision of the future, Metropolis (image at right). A reader has added a comment to the effect that the Phillips has just canceled this event. The image in this post is the closest you are getting to Metropolis.
