>> Start your Thursday night gallery hopping at Flashpoint, where they’re holding an opening reception for Shifting Waters, a collection of drawings by Janis Goodman, an associate professor of fine arts at the Corcoran. Her gestural markings create animated representations of water in its many natural forms. Ask yourself if the dark graphite Goodman uses accurately translates her subjects’ connection to life and nature, at the opening reception from 6 to 8 p.m.

>> It’s like a kiddie DCist Exposed! On your must-see list tonight is Through the Lens of D.C. Youth, a photography exhibit featuring black and white images of inspirational people or things for these talented kids. The exhibit is sponsored by Critical Exposure, a non-profit that uses photography to help young folks shine light on local issues, focusing primarily on the school system. A fundraiser is part of tonight’s reception, so give a few bucks to help a kid buy a camera, and maybe you’ll be laying the foundation for the documentary exposé that inspires our officials to finally rebuild the local schools. Check out the reception tonight at the ARTiculate Gallery, 1100 16th Street NW, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

>> We told you about the new Honfleur Gallery back in February, and if you haven’t checked it out yet, this weekend is a great time. An opening reception on Saturday at 7 p.m. presents the new show Around the World in a Day with acrylic paintings and graphite drawings by Alison Spain. Spain, who is also an avid volunteer in D.C., uses inspiration from her many travels along with incorporated body parts to create nature scenes that are “dark, violent and beautiful.”
