After a thoroughly dominating March, the Florida Gators cut down the nets for the second straight year. Meanwhile, in the DCist Reader-Staff Bracketfest, reader Seth Rappaport had the honor of cutting down the virtual nets. Seth built a commanding lead with perfect first round brackets in three of the four regions, then dealt his finishing blow by picking a perfect Final Four.

Coming in second was our own Hayden Alfano, bracket manager extrordinaire. Thanks Hayden, you leant a measure of respect to the otherwise inconsistent staff brackets. We’d also like to thank reader Dick Sandwich, whose morbid bracket (only six picks from the Sweet 16) kept the sorry likes of DCist Sommer, DCist Jeff, and myself from the shame of last place.

Readers Karen Luong, Chris Roche, and Brian Moore rounded out the top five, while Andrew Wiseman was the second highest staff finisher at 11th place.

Seth, we’ll be contacting you shortly to mail you the spoils of your victory. The rest of us are left with broken dreams, bitterness and excuses. What went wrong? Was this one of the worst tournaments ever? How does Florida rank among basketball’s greats? What are the chances Hoya fans will be chanting “Jeff Green’s Mom” and “ROY ROY ROY!” next year? It’s been fun for us, and we hope it has been for you as well.
