Guys, guys, guys. We know you hit up DCist to check out this week’s line-up at the Black Cat or the new gossip in the foodie world, but we like to think you love this city more than just for its evening entertainment possibilities and decent grasshopper taco locales.

Last week we told you about our team for Servathon 2007, which will be taking part in the volunteer day on May 5. Team DCist will be heading out to Hine Junior High to give it a much-needed paint job. Principal Willie Jackson will be there and had this to say about our efforts:

We have 385 students who deserve the very best of everything that a public education has to offer. To that end we are so excited that the community has embraced Hine JHS and its students to do a great work.

We’re pretty excited, too, so much that we’ve already raised $1400 over the past week and become the #2 highest fundraising team. Nevertheless, we’re still missing an essential element here: you. We know full well there are tens of thousands of you reading DCist every day and we know almost certainly you all spent five bucks on a beer or latte this week (and you and I both know you didn’t need that last beer, did you). Just think how much we could give to D.C. non-profits if every one of you gave that $5 to Servathon – we’re talking literally zillions of dollars!

Anyway, what good are we at position two to anybody? No one ever conquered a thing by settling for almost on top. And we aim to come out on top. Oh yes. Have you seen those namby-pambies leading the pack? If our community of readers can’t beat a bunch of Harvard/Stanford/Wharton/Dartmouth (I mean, really?) punks, how can we hold our virtual heads high as we discuss the intricacies of the voting rights movement or gentrification in Northeast? Are we going to let these ivy league B-schoolers clean our clocks?? Haven’t these liberal elitists (providing pro-bono business consulting to non-profits and encouraging graduates to serve their community) done enough?

Five dollars, guys. You are a part of a phenomenal resource for D.C. organizations in desperate need, but only if you click here. Make a small team donation, or better yet, join our group on May 5 to repaint Hine Junior High and recoup that donation money in the free beer provided afterward (really!).
