>> It may come as a surprise, but some of the most innovative jazz in the world is now coming out of Norway. The scene’s music is known for its fearlessness and avant-garde sensibilities. >> This Friday and Saturday, woodwind player Anthony E. Nelson leads a band at Twins Jazz. His band will consist of altoist Julius Tolentino, drummer Tyshawn Sorey, as well as local heavyweights Allyn Johnson on piano and Kris Funn on bass.

>> Antonio Parker, a well respected local saxophonist, will be at HR-57 every Friday in June. Doors open at 9 p.m. and the music runs from 9:30 to 1:00 a.m. There is a $12 cover.
