Long exposure night photography is a tricky thing. Flickr user {ryan} kept his camera’s shutter open for nearly three long minutes to catch the light trails from the cars on the George Washington Parkway. Like the commenters note, the yellow curve sign makes a crucial focal point, pulling together a photo that required a lot of elements to come out just right. EXIF.

Just a reminder, to have your photos considered for Photo of the Day or for use on one of our many posts every day, please add them to the DCist photo pool. We also appreciate it if you would tag your photo “dcist” along with whatever else appears in the photograph, which makes it easy for us to search for subject specific images when we need them. The pool is restricted to three photos a day, and we also ask that you refrain from tagging more than three a day, to avoid overwhelming the group. In fact, you’re more likely to see your photo on the site if you submit only a few per day or week, rather than throwing 50 photos in the pool once a month. Just a tip! We continue to appreciate all the folks who help us illustrate what’s going on in Washington, D.C. every day.
