It’s now been a year since the murder of Robert Wone, the prominent D.C. attorney who was slain while he slept in a guest bedroom at the home of friends on the 1500 block of Swann Street NW. Wone, 32, was stabbed three times in the chest with a butcher knife that police have said came from the kitchen. Three other men were in the house at the time of the murder, and yet no arrest has been made in the case. On Monday, Kathy Wone gave a press conference where she tried to reason with whomever is responsible for her husband’s death.
“Having a murder on your conscience is no small load to carry as you try to live as normal a life as possible,” Wone said, reading from a statement as her friends and lawyers looked on. “Confessing will be one of the hardest things you can do, but also one of the most freeing things you can do for yourself.”
At this point, the speculation surrounding the mystery of Wone’s murder has settled on the three other men who were there that night: Joe Price, Wone’s good friend, Victor Zaborsky, Price’s domestic partner, and Dylan Ward, the couple’s roommate. Police have repeatedly complained that all three men haven’t been fully cooperative with the investigation, even though they all say they have told them everything they know. All three men initially refused to speak with police and hired defense attorneys, and the story they eventually told investigators was that an intruder had entered the house through the back door — but there was no evidence of a forced entry, and even more incriminating, the room where Wone’s body was found had been cleaned up before police arrived on the scene. The Post reported that none of the three men were present at the press conference on Monday.
