>> The Washington Irish R.F.C. had some early success with their attempt to bring a more laidback pub trivia night to Solly’s on U Street, so they’re back with another four weeks of trivia on Wednesdays starting promptly at 8:30 p.m. — get there early, as even though they’ve only done two of these before, it’s been packed every time. Prizes range from $25 gift cards to fancy bottles of wine, and between rounds teams are invited to play songs from their iPods, with additional prizes for best song chosen.

>> There are still tickets available to see The National tonight at 9:30 Club, with The Rosebuds and Doveman, $18, doors at 7:30 p.m. The band played the same venue only back in June, and you can check out our review and photos here.

>> Spanish director Juan Antonio Bardem was unable to accept an International Critics Award for his 1955 film, Death of Cyclist, as he had been put in prison by Franco. The story condemns a wealthy, adulterous couple for hitting a man on his bicycle and leaving him to die rather than risk exposing their affair. 9:15 p.m., at the AFI Silver Theater.

>> Anyone even remotely interested in current foreign policy debates facing our country will want to be at Politics and Prose to listen to John J. Mearsheimer and Stephen M. Walt discuss their new book expanded from the original essay, The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy. 7 p.m.
