>> There are so many festivals going on this weekend, we don’t feel bad mentioning them a few times to make sure you get your butt off the couch to check out as many of them as you can. We’ll have more on always anticipated Crafty Bastards later today, which is Sunday in Adams Morgan. The National Book Festival, where this writer is going to nerd it up, is Saturday on the Mall. Practice your Latin moves at FiestaDC in Mt. Pleasant on Sunday. Get some more art and crafts at Magical Montgomery in Silver Spring on Saturday. A variety of blues and jazz will be performed at Brookland Day on Saturday as well. And today through Sunday, find performances all over the city for the DC International Improv Festival. Did I miss one? Leave it in the comments.
>> If you haven’t been to see WPAC’s Options 2007 yet, stop by tonight for a party hosted by relatively new Artcade Magazine. The $10 fee ($5 for students) includes an open wine bar and entry to the gallery of works by ten up and coming local artists. Pepco’s Edison Place Gallery, 6 to 9 p.m.
>> Project 4 will be holding a different kind of event over the weekend, but one that should attract art and style lovers nonetheless. The Vintage Project is a fashion trunk show with original pieces for sale from Uesa Goods, including both international and well-known local designers. Stop by for the cocktail reception tomorrow from 6 to 8 p.m., or dig through the treasures at your leisure Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. or Sunday, 12 to 5 p.m.
>> Learn the history of one of the world’s most pristine areas through National Geographic Museum’s new exhibit, Journey to the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. The show, which opened Monday, is a collection of photographs from the 1956 expedition that resulted in the creation of the refuge. You can also see field journals and other items from the trip, and learn how global warming and oil drilling may affect this beautiful landscape.
>> While the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture is still a long way from opening, WTOP reports that they’ve already got a web site up and running, and soliciting ideas from the public for potential exhibits.
