Good morning, Washington. The weather-related headlines today are all generally pretty disappointing — The Post proclaims that “Rain Likely to Dampen Area But Not Douse the Drought”, and others have followed suit. But waving like a lone reed in the pessimistic sands of weather prognostication is CapitalWeather.com, who just minutes ago put up a prediction, based on a brand new model, suggesting that “several factors are finally lining up to bring the potential for several inches of drought-busting rain over the next 60 hours.” Of course, a five month-long drought will necessarily have long-term effects in spite of this current downpour, but we’d still recommend getting out your galoshes, D.C.

Oh Yeah, What About Those Fare Hikes: Not that we’ve actually forgotten, but the delay tactics and overall slow going of the Metro Board when it comes to the inevitable fare hike have put the matter on the backburners of our minds. It’s certainly worth remembering though that the Board is meeting again today to discuss fares, and the Examiner rightly paints the current deadlock as a product of differing priorities between D.C. and its suburbs. We’ll follow up if anything comes out of today’s meeting.

Church Planned at Uptown Hits Snags: You’ll recall the frenzy that ensued when rumors that the Uptown Theater in Cleveland Park would close to make way for a megachurch, but of course that turned out not to be true. The McLean Bible Church planned only to hold services in the theater on Sunday mornings, with the rest of the theater still operating as usual. The Post reports that not even those modest plans may pan out for the church, however, as D.C. zoning officials have ruled that the church would need a special permit to operate in the historic movie theater, a setback which will surely delay its plans to begin services in January.
