>> The music played by the DJs at the South African Christmas Eve party at Zanzibar on the Waterfront will presumably include that country’s brand of house style dance music known as kwaito, some old-school mbaqanga from the Mahotella Queens, and some accapella from Paul Simon’s pals Ladysmith Black Mambazo. Ladies free before 11; $15 before midnight.

TUESDAY
>> Had enough time at home with relatives, or just looking for something to do on a night when many places are closed? Go-go vets Rare Essence and hot newcomers Mambo Sauce (“Welcome to DC” is getting local radio airplay) will be taking the stage at Zanzibar beginning at 10 p.m.
