Police across the D.C. and Baltimore region are searching for Kelvin Poke, pictured right, a 45-year-old armed inmate who escaped from Laurel Regional Hospital this morning and has since carjacked at least two vehicles, shooting one driver and fleeing into the city limits of Washington D.C.
The Baltimore Sun says that Poke was believed to have fled the hospital in a stolen Toyota Camry, whose driver was shot, about 9 a.m. That car was later found abandoned in 1100 block of 1st Street NE, having been damaged by a small fire. Another carjacking occurred shortly after in the same area, at about 1 p.m.: A white 2005 Ford Explorer Sport Trac with D.C. government tags # 3690 was stolen.
MPD sent out an email alert describing Poke as a black male, 6’4″ and 215 lbs. He may be in one of two stolen vehicles: the white 4-door Explorer or a Black Impala or Black Crown Victoria. The last known location was near 53rd & Fitch Street NE. If you think you see Poke, call 911 immediately. The suspect is armed.
