FRIDAY:
>> Finding good comedy in this city can be like pinpointing a good bagel or deli. But DC Comedy 4 Now is kicking off the new year with a bang, showcasing local talent at tonight’s first annual “Clash of the Titans”. Originally conceived by Comedy 4 Now contributors Jason Saenz, Nick Turner, Jay Hastings, Larry Poon and Aparna Nancherla, the show is basically the five friends trash-talking each other on stage, in between and during sets. Most of them and other performers are Washington Improv Theater players and alums, prizeholders of past D.C. comedy festivals, and mildly-familiar faces from national commercial spots. 8 p.m. at the DC Improv. Tickets are $10 at the door, or go to Symfonee.com.
>> The Neo-Futurists‘ Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind, a hilarious smorgasbord of 30 plays in 60 minutes, returns to Woolly Mammoth for a command repeat engagement. Check out our review from the Capital Fringe Festival here. Through Jan. 13, Tickets are $25 and can be purchased online here.
>> Local band Telograph celebrates the release of Telograph EP, which we reviewed recently, at Black Cat. They’ll perform with The Red Romance and The Sketches, and give away copies of the new EP. $10. 9 p.m.
>> It’s been over 20 years since Prince released his Parade and Sign ‘O’ The Times albums that included tracks like “Kiss” and “U Got the Look.” Eric Roberson, Wayna, and W. Ellington Felton will headline a tribute at the 9:30 Club to The Artist’s two mid-1980s works that should feature many a falsetto. Doors at 8 p.m., $18.
SATURDAY:
>> DJ Rekha brings her bhangra-influenced beats to the Black Cat’s mainstage, with special guest DJ Dredd of the Cat’s famous “Vs.” dance night series. Check out our interview with DJ Rekha here. Doors open at 9 p.m. $13.
>> DJ Will Eastman’s Blisspop outfit brings another solid Saturday night of music and dancing to the 9:30 Club, with a little help from BrightestYoungThings. Turntablist Tittsworth headlines, with funky Minneapolis band Codebreaker and locals Metropolitan filling out the bill. Tickets for the all-ages show are $10.
>> Dr. Dremo’s hosts what looks to be the last ever Night of 101 Elvises, the annual Elvis birthday party featuring an Elvis costume contest ($100 first place cash prize), Elvis impersonators and Elvis karaoke. $10 to get in, unless you dress like Elvis, in which case you’ll not only get in for free but also be moved to the front of the line. The party starts at 7 p.m.
>> Bay Area-based Soul rocker Martin Luther will be performing at Bohemian Caverns hot off the heals of a Grammy nomination for his work on the soundtrack to Across The Universe. Doors at 11 p.m., $15 in advance/$20 at the door.
SUNDAY:
>> The AFI Silver Theater wraps up its Monty Python retrospective with screenings of The Meaning of Life at 3:10 p.m. and And Now for Something Completely Different at 9:45 p.m.
