We know you all have March 7 circled in red on your calendar for the opening reception of DCist Exposed, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Civilian Art Projects. But get out your red pen again, because we want you to add another date: Wednesday, March 13 12.
Last year, we were not only thrilled to see how many people showed up to view the exhibit of these emerging talents, but also how many people got out their checkbooks and took advantage of the opportunity to buy real art while it was still affordable. Even better, some of those buyers have contacted us, eager to see the offerings by this year’s crop of photographers, and one even gave us some of the best praise we could have asked for:
DCist Exposed really kickstarted a passion for local photography for me, and I’ve started buying more pieces. It’s really nice to be able to collect in a small way.
In addition to helping our local photographers get their work noticed, we want to encourage the flip-side as well: helping art lovers figure out just where to start when it comes to buying that first piece. So this year DCist has partnered with the Pink Line Project to organize an informative special event during this year’s show, aimed directly at folks who are tired of looking at that old Monet reproduction poster on their wall.
On March 13 12, join us for Emerge Exposed, a panel discussion for emerging collectors. Pink Line has lined up an amazing group of people from all sides of the art buying experience, who will discuss everything you want to know about collecting photography and art in general:
- Sarah Kennell, Curator of Photography at the National Gallery of Art
- Henry Thaggert, Collector
- Jason Falchook, Photographer
- Alyssa Rosenberg, Emerging Collector (and author of the blockquote you see above)
- Philippa Hughes, Moderator
The panel discussion will begin promptly at 7 p.m., only costs $10, and there will be a free reception following from 8 to 9 p.m. – all at Civilian Art Projects. We hope that those of you who are interested in buying art, but don’t know where to start, will join DCist and Pink Line for this important conversation.
