It’s by no means pleasant outside today, but yesterday’s fears of a thick coating of ice in the District haven’t come to pass. Still, Davy DCist sent us this totally obnoxious postcard just to rub today’s winter storm in our faces. The nerve of that guy.
So here’s the deal now: most of the suburban school districts are closed, and there was indeed a 15-car pileup on I-270 in Montgomery County, but warmer temperatures in the city have prevented the icy menace from making roads and sidewalks in the city too treacherous. D.C. Schools are operating under a normal schedule, and the federal government remains open, albeit under an unscheduled leave policy. The National Weather Service has canceled our Winter Storm Warning as of 12:48 p.m., and replaced it with a milder Winter Weather Advisory until 10 p.m. tonight. Still, there are some icy patches here and there even in the District, so continue to be careful.
As for what more we can expect from this continually milder than expected winter, the Capital Weather Gang’s Jason Samenow told washingtonpost.com readers in a live chat today that “La Nina years (such as this) have been cold and somewhat stormy for us. Our winter outlook calls for a colder than average March.” To which we maturely say, ptttttttthhhhbt!
