Here we go again: The Real World may finally (or dreadfully) be coming to Washington. We know, we know. Rumors circulated three-and-a-half years ago that MTV was scoping out property in Adams Morgan. We warned you then it probably wouldn’t happen, it didn’t, and the bars of Adams Morgan were better for it.
But Bunim-Murray Productions, which currently produces The Real World for MTV, is reportedly looking for activists and politically minded people to cast for the next season of the show, so the rumor mill is pegging the most likely location as Washington. They also held an open casting call in College Park, Md. last weekend, so they’re at least once again considering D.C. as a location. The question has always been, though, in this image-conscious town that likes to fire even low-level staffers for their public indiscretions, who on earth would possibly be stupid enough to employ these people? DCist maintains that this is the real hurdle and offers its own solution — Rock the Vote. MTV can ante up this year and let their own projects suffer from any nonsense.
And as far as the location of the monster mansion? Rent a pad in Georgetown — and let the not-so-real worlders battle in out with the LNSers. It keeps other late-night spots safe for the rest of us.
DCist staff took an in internal poll when someone was shocked to discover The Real World was still filming. What’s the last season you watched voluntarily? New Orleans was the final nail in the coffin for some, while others regrettably lasted until Las Vegas. One gave it up after San Francisco. Every show has it’s shelf life. Does anyone even care about The Real World anymore?
