So, did everyone get their detergent, T-shirts, and cheap patio furniture?

Obviously, one of the biggest stories of the week was the introduction of the Target to Columbia Heights and the District-at-large. Just prior to its grand opening, questions abounded about this new, shiny monument to consumables. Would the store balloon criminal activity in the area? How was the traffic around Irving Street going to respond to an elephantine mall? Most importantly, would there be a cart escalator? (Luckily, we could answer this one – a resounding yes.) Of course, we looked to our massive contingent of cogent commenters to provide the answers to these difficult and pressing queries, and you responded. This week’s Comment of the Week was delivered by RJ, who had an impression of how the first morning of the Target’s existence might have looked:

I think it would go like this:

7:59 Can’t wait for this to open
8:00 ITS OPEN!!!!!
8:02 Hey this Target looks like the one at Potomac Yard, the one back at school, the one back at home and that one in Florida.
8:07 Ohh that’s what “small appliances” is in Spanish
8:30 F*ck no self check out yet.
8:31 No I don’t want a Target card.

After the jump, more measured observations about our very own big box store, and the usual collection of quips.
