PERFORMANCE: The Palace of Wonders is adding an Irish theme to its usual line-up of burlesque and daredevil performers by bringing in the Lucky Daredevil Thrillshow for snake charming, fire eating, etc., and adding a bagpipe band into the mix. Works for us. $10, drink specials and drinking contests, starting at 9 p.m.

MUSIC: Just gotta get that St. Patrick’s Day feeling? Your best bet for avoiding the hordes is probably checking out D.C. Irish rock/punk band O’Tasty, formerly known as Potato Famine and the winner of New York City’s 2005 Irish Rhapsody Festival, who will be headlining at Iota. Bring some dancing shoes and try to avoid the people swinging their pints of Guinness. $10. 8:30 p.m.

CLASSICAL: A farewell concert for living legend Alfred Brendel is planned for tonight by Washington Performing Arts Society in the Music Center at Strathmore at 8 p.m. It has been sold out for a while, but you may at least be able to hear the legendary Austrian pianist speak about his long career, in an interview-conversation on Tuesday (March 18, 6:30 p.m.) at the Austrian Embassy. No tickets will be sold at the door for the Tuesday event, so buy your ticket in advance.

MOVIE: We love that along with “good for you” films documenting the Earth’s impending environmental apocalypse, the D.C. Environmental Film Festival is also screening fantastic selections from cinema history (like Godzilla) that have any sort of environmental angle. Tonight you can catch a special free screening of Roman Polanski’s Chinatown, arguably one of the greatest films ever made, at the Library of Congress’ Mary Pickford theater. Learn about the history of L.A.’s water supply and get to see some of Jack Nicholson’s finest acting. Screening starts at 7 p.m., and reservations are required, so call 202-707-5677 before 4 p.m.
