FRIDAY:
>> Artomatic continues this weekend. Tonight is Meet the Artists Night, from 7 to 10 p.m., and Saturday is Blogger’s Night in the 12th floor lounge from 7 to 9 p.m. Read through the other hundred or so events going on this weekend on Artomatic’s calendar.
>> The second “After Dark” event takes place tonight at the House of Sweden. DJs Hej Hej and Moh Ducis will provide the tunes, and the Swedes have smartly increased the cover charge for the open bar art party to $20, so hopefully that’s steep enough to keep the massive crowds away and the fire marshal won’t have to limit entry again. 9 p.m.–12 a.m. UPDATE: An alert reader points out this event has sold-out, so if you haven’t bought tickets in advance, don’t bother.
>> The U.K.’s Los Campesinos! will be performing at the Black Cat tonight with Arlington-based garage rockers The Aquarium and D.C.’s Pash. $12, 9 p.m.
>> The Red and the Black is hosting an evening of solo performances from some of our favorite local acts, including Meredith Bragg, Ryan Walker (of The Beanstalk Library), Ryan Little (of Tereu Tereu) and Tut Tut. $8, 9 p.m.
SATURDAY:
>> Passport DC hosts its Around the World Open House, where embassies will open their doors to the public and present programming that showcases their unique cultures. Every embassy is doing something different, so check the schedule and see what looks good. All events are free, but don’t forget to bring a photo ID.
>> Don’t miss our full preview of the Mid City Artists‘ Spring Open Studios. Over 40 artists will open up their workspaces for you to poke around in on Saturday and Sunday, 12 to 5 p.m. Get a map of each location at their web site.
>> The jazz postman and local legend Buck Hill will lead a group through two sets this Saturday at Bohemian Caverns. Tickets to the 9 and 11 p.m. sets are $15.
>> It’s 14th Street art night! Start in the 1515 building at G Fine Art, where you’ll find Remake with works by Ivan Navarro and Courtney Smith. They rework materials into new objects, and the exhibit will feature an interactive installation, Chinese puzzle works, and a neon light piece about General Pinochet’s dictatorship in Chile. After you’ve taken all that in, step over to Adamson Gallery for a big group show with Pattern Recognition, where the artists use “abstract designs to produce meaning.” Over at Curator’s Office they’ll have a reception for the already open photographic exhibit Corpus by Jason Horowitz. Receptions for G Fine and Adamson run 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.; Curator’s Office is 6 to 8 p.m.
>> Comic Vijai Nathan performs Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. in the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center‘s Dekelboum Concert Hall. Tickets are $15 student/$25 non-student if purchased online ahead of the show. Tickets purchased the day of the performance are $20 student/$30 non-student. Don’t miss our preview of the show.
SUNDAY:
>> It’s a solid night of rock-inspired soul with D.C.-raised singer Alice Smith at the 9:30 Club, with Philly-born soul rocker Res. $18, 8 p.m.
>> Three Stars and Unbuckled alums Deleted Scenes are playing the Black Cat Mainstage with Bishop Allen and The War on Drugs.$12, 8 p.m. doors.
