A construction worker has been injured in a building collapse in the 1400 block of Belmont Street NW.
The worker was operating a Bobcat in a four story apartment at 1417 Belmont ST NW, which was under renovation, when the building partially collapsed. He’s currently being taken in an ambulance to a nearby hospital.
Streets around the building have been shut down as fire officials establish a collapse zone. Belmont Street has been closed to traffic west of 14th Street NW, and 14th Street has been blocked to vehicular traffic above and below the accident.
UPDATE: The Associated Press says the injured worker is in serious condition and has a broken femur. The collapse appears to have occurred when workers accidentally knocked down a support beam.
