Two children and two adults were transported to a nearby hospital for serious injuries.
Metro Transit Police say the man “intentionally entered the track bed.”
As a 20-year-old from Pennsylvania and a 25-year-old from Maryland
They are more than halfway to a goal of $50,000.
A second police officer is in fair condition and a traffic control officer has been released from the hospital.
“He zoomed around the bus… I guess he got tired of waiting, and drove into the lane of oncoming traffic,” said one witness.
The crash appears to have affected the driver’s door of a parked car and the side of the streetcar.
This is the second traffic fatality involving a pedestrian this week.
It happened around 2:20 a.m. this morning, bringing the total number of traffic fatalities this year to 16.
No passengers were injured, Metro says.
