Do you know a young lady between the ages of eight and 18 who’d like to spend part of her summer learning how to play thrash metal? Is there any way you think I can pass for under 18 so I can attend?

The deadline to register for Girls Rock!DC, the D.C. area’s first all-girl rock camp, is this coming Monday, June 9. The camp itself runs from August 11-15, and culminates with a performance showcase on Saturday, August 16 at the 9:30 Club. D.C. metro area girls with experience levels from none to advanced are encouraged to apply for rock camp, which offers small group instruction on electric guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, turntables, and vocals. Campers will then form bands, collaborate to write an original song and then perform in the showcase. Tuition is $350 to $500, on a sliding scale. Financial aid and scholarships are available. Find out more about how to register here.

Don’t know any eligible girls but would still like to get involved? Girls Rock!DC is also looking for volunteers to lend a hand both leading up to and during camp. Adults with skills ranging from recruitment and publicity to cooking to capable instrument teaching are asked to fill out a volunteer application though the Girls Rock! web site.
