You know, I canceled my HBO subscription when The Wire ended, and even though I was briefly regretting that decision when I started reading about Alan Ball’s new vampire show, today’s news makes me feel sure I did the right thing. Via Gawker, Variety is reporting that some four years after the Jessica Cutler/Washingtonienne Capitol Hill sex blog scandal first broke, the pay cable network is going ahead with a pilot for a TV series based on Cutler’s book. Sex and the City‘s Sarah Jessica Parker is set to executive produce.

Two points here:
1) Isn’t this story dead? Is there anyone out there who still cares about Jessica Cutler after all this time?
2) Could HBO possibly be unaware that this show is already being made, and in a less cheesy way, over at Showtime?

At least the odds are good that the pilot won’t necessarily get picked up. The vast majority of pilots made for TV series are never seen. Then again, it’d probably be a good thing if this means HBO has to pay Cutler some more money to make this pilot. Maybe then she can stop associating with New York City hookers.
