Dish of the Week: Cupcakes
Where: Hello Cupcake

Memories of childhood birthday parties bring bad food flashbacks. The bowling alley pizza, the big cans of Hi-C punch (make mine Ecto Cooler). But most notable was the cupcakes. Dry nasty little bundles of Betty Crocker’s finest box slathered with dried crunchy frosting with multicolored sugar dots. While that certainly has a place in our memories, leave it to those slightly more intrepid to come up with something a little more adult and appropriate. From more interesting flavors to moister cake and creamy rich frosting, the childhood treat has recaptured a spot with burgers as the latest comfort food to make a comeback.

And now it’s time for DC’s latest sweet tooth onslaught. Dupont Circle’s Hello Cupcake is slated to open it’s doors this Monday, August 25, offering a rotating selection of 20+ flavors that range from the traditional vanilla cake with chocolate frosting to the more unique cinnamon-chocolate cake with chili-chocolate ganache frosting. Here’s hoping this bakeshop avoids the supply issues that plagued a certain Georgetown cupcakery last February. Let the cupcake wars begin!
