>> There’s a lot of world music happening this week. On Thursday, Serbian artist Bilja Krstic leads the Bistrik Orchestra at the Millennium Stage. Krstic is a pop star in her native land and the ensemble blends blends traditional music, a cappella songs, and ethno grooves. 6 p.m. Free
>> Legendary blues pianist/vocalist Mose Allison starts a four night stint at Blues Alley on Thursday. Tickets to the nightly 8 and 10 p.m. sets are $25 + $12.50 minimum/surcharge.
>> Daysahead, a duo that plays jazz with a strong R&B influence will perform this Friday at Jazz in the Garden. 5 to 8:30 p.m. Free
>> Jazz Night in Southwest hosts reed man Will Smith this Friday. 6 to 9 p.m. $5
>> Trumpeter Kenny Rittenhouse, an area mainstay and member of the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra, performs this Friday and Saturday at Bohemian Caverns with 9 and 11 p.m. sets. His band will feature trombonist and Three Stars alum Reginald Cyntje. Tickets are $15.
>> The 3rd Annual Planet Arlington World Music Festival takes place from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Iwo Jima Memorial in Rosslyn. the event will feature the Congolese-Angolan salsa icon Ricardo Lemvo and Makina Loca (4 – 5:15 pm), China’s Yang Ying (5:45 – 6:45 pm), “the Jimi Hendrix of the erhu”, Lebanese vocalist Tania Saleh (7:15 – 8:15 pm), and Solas (8:45 – 10 pm), the most acclaimed Celtic band to originate in the United States. Solas will be hosting a CD release party the previous night. The festival is free and open to the public.
