That’s right, kiddos. International superstar and former administrative law judge Roy Pearson is back! Last night WJLA reported that the infamous $54 million missing pants lawsuit has actually been granted an appeals hearing by a three-judge appellate court panel. Faithful readers must realize what a thrill it was for DCist to once again set our Google image search function to “pants” upon hearing the news.

It’s been more than a year since we last heard from Pearson, and more than two years since his civil complaint and trial against the Chung family attracted an inordinate amount of media attention for being the dumbest thing on any court docket anywhere that year. For a refresher, feel free to scroll through our extensive archives on the subject. But the bottom line is that Judge Pearson accused the Chungs, former owners of Custom Cleaners, of losing his precious, precious pants. He sued them for $67 million, later reduced the amount $54 million, and proceeded to lose his reputation, the case and then finally, his judgeship.

So what are the odds this three-judge appellate court panel could agree to overturn the lower court ruling and order a new trial? Stranger things have happened, but we’ll just have to wait until next month to find out. Pearson’s $1 million wrongful termination suit against the city is still pending, however.
