District police arrested a teenager on Thursday in connection with an attack on three gay men in Adams Morgan this summer. The teen’s identity has not been released since he is a juvenile. The attack is considered a hate crime, according to a report from the Washington Blade. The MPD’s announcement of the arrest — released as a statement last night — said the teen is charged with aggravated assault.

The Blade report also stated that the incident garnered some attention in the mainstream media after photos of a beaten Todd Metrokin, one of the victims in the July 13 attack, were published on the blog The New Gay in late August. The other victims’ identities have not been released.

Reports indicate that Metrokin and his two friends were at the Pizza Mart when a group of five to six others yelled homophobic epithets at them. As the victims left the restaurant, the assailants followed them and then beat them near 18th Street and Kalorama Road.

In light of this and other recent incidents involving attacks on gay men, including one near Be Bar that resulted in the death of Tony Randolph Hunter, a local chapter of Gays and Lesbians Opposed to Violence (GLOV) has re-formed. GLOV was originally formed in the 1990s and used to publish annual hate crime reports and provide training to police regarding violence against LGBT citizens. Their first meeting was held at the D.C. Center on September 22 with about 50 people in attendance.
