It’s First Friday tonight, though many of the Dupont galleries seem to be showing the same exhibit as last month. Enjoy a brisk fall walk to see them again, and find at least one new show at Studio Gallery. Artist Langley Spurlock and poet John Martin Tarrat bring a little art nerdism in Secrets of the Elements 2: The Unfinished Universe, where “painting, collage, sculpture, prints and haiku meet the periodic table of the elements.” They’re also featuring some of Matthew Carucci’s cross-hatching drawings, which were some of our favorite pieces at this year’s Artomatic.
>> Also in Dupont but not part of First Friday, tiny Pass Gallery has an opening tonight with the work of six artists, including Matt Sesow and Pat Goslee. The space is at 1617 S Street and has a bit of a “secret” entrance in the alley behind the S Street-side of the address. Tonight, 7 to 10 p.m.
>> Head to the Bellinis & Blue Jeans fundraiser tonight to support Rebuilding Together, which works to make free home repairs for low-income homeowners, especially elderly, disabled, and families with children in Washington, D.C. Held at the Woodward Building, you can check out work by a handful of artists, including Mary Early and Sarah Thibodeaux, and sample some treats from Cieba, Ten Pehn and Levante’s. $15 at the door, 8 to 10 p.m.
>> Twenty-nine artists find their “balance” with their work in the new folk art exhibit at Art Enables. See Liberating Our Libra at the reception Saturday, 4 to 6 p.m.
>> Art Whino has another two-parter opening this weekend. Tonight warm up at the Addidas store in Georgetown (1251 Wisconsin Ave NW) and see live painting by Brandon Hill, with music by DJ Feng, 7 to 11 p.m. Tomorrow head to the gallery in National Harbor for the opening of their new exhibit, Cheeseburgers and Sushi, featuring Hill’s works, and more music and performances, 6 p.m. to midnight. Both events are free.
>> Dissident Display is hosting a closing party for their current exhibit, Space Invaders tonight from 7 p.m. to midnight. Whether you’ve seen it already or not, head down for a performance followed by an artist talk with Holly Bass at 7 p.m., a performance by Yoko K Music at 8 p.m., and DJ Adrian takes over at 8:30 p.m.
