MUSIC: Avant-garde artists The Residents have tried on a host of genres, personas, costumes and attitudes while always being brilliantly satirical and interesting. This seated show at the 9:30 Club will combine music from their latest album and a series of narrative videos and performance that tell the story of “the bunny boy,” whose search for his missing brother compels him to post videos on the internet as a “cry for help.” Doors at 7 p.m., $35.
DEBATE WATCHING: Still looking for a good place to watch tonight’s second presidential debate? Folks at the Red Derby are hosting a round of election trivia starting at 7 p.m., with the debate to be projected on their wall starting at 9 p.m.
MUSIC: Jammin Java has some bluesy-tinged rock from chanteuse Robinella and bluegrass-inspired duo Uncle Monk, which sees punk legend Tommy Ramone in a rather different setting…playing the mandolin. 7:30 p.m., $10 in advance, $12 at the door.
PANEL: From 6:30 to 8 p.m., head to the Goethe Institute for a panel discussion titled Bringing Eastern Market Back. The Institute’s interest in Eastern Market revolves around the 1872 building’s German architect, Adolf Cluss. The panelists will discuss the building’s renovation and the role of historic preservationists in this process, and residents of the architect’s hometown in Germany will share their insight.
