Good morning, D.C. Welcome to the first weekend of regular posting here at DCist. We hope that you’ll join us all weekend while you’re kicking back and taking advantage of what looks like some utterly outstanding weather for mid-October.
That said, here’s a little taste of this morning’s news for your consideration:
>> The Washington Times brings good news this morning, with the story that the park at 14th and Girard Streets NW – which is probably best known as the site of the brutal murder of a thirteen year-old in 2007 – has received approval for $3 million in improvements from the District. You can check out the proposed upgrades to the park here.
>> The Post notes a proposed transitway in upper Montgomery County which picked the wrong funding climate to do everything right. It’s quite indicative of the amount of funding out there if this project – which has most of its land under wraps, is relatively inexpensive, and possesses governmental and citizen backing – is having trouble getting approved.
>> WTOP reports that a woman was fatally stabbed at 3rd and R Streets, NW, in a bungled robbery attempt.
