First Union Station, now the John A. Wilson Building. The home of D.C.’s city government is celebrating its centennial tomorrow, and a new exhibit inside the building will open to the public starting at 9:45 a.m.

The exhibit, “People, Politics and Progress”, incorporates photographs, manuscripts, works of art and oral histories that represent the experiences of D.C. residents. On the first floor you’ll find displays about people who have been leaders in the District, and the rest of the exhibit is up on the fifth floor, which focuses on the history of Home Rule.

There will also be a full line-up of events at the building all day, including a drumline performance at 9:45 a.m., tours of the building starting at 10 a.m., and a q&a session with local media personalities Kojo Nnamdi and Mark Plotkin at 5 p.m. Nnamdi and Plotkin will share some fun stories about events that took place at the Wilson Building during their time covering local politics.

One last item of note to entice you down to city hall tomorrow: all members of the D.C. Council are keeping their doors open to constituents all day, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. If you’ve always meant to go down and visit your Ward representative, tomorrow might be a good day for it.
