In case you missed this morning’s Alert DC notice, Washington Gas reported that gas service has been interrupted to some 400 homes in the Shaw neighborhood as of just after 8 a.m. Not great timing, considering the recent cold snap.
The outage was reportedly caused by a Washington Gas employee accidentally damaging a gas line. The area affected is from U Street to Rhode Island Ave NW, and from 8th St. to Vermont Ave NW, as pictured above. Washington Gas says it is going door to door to alert residents of the outage, and that they expect the damage will be restored within 24 hours. A staging area has been set up at 931 R. St NW, so look out for traffic slowdowns on R Street between 10th and 9th.
Overnight lows are expected to dip down to close to 30 degrees tonight.
