Good morning, Washington. Ah, the snow. Remember that? The lovely, wintry dusting we received over the weekend? This photo from philliefan99 recalls it nicely. Well, enjoy the photo, because the only precipitation in our immediate future is of the “disgusting winter rain” variety — it looks like it’s going to be drizzly until Friday. At least it’ll stay a little warmer than last weekend.
Senators Oppose Extending Last Call for Inauguration: The Post brings word about a letter that Senators Dianne Feinstein and Bob Bennett have written to Mayor Fenty and the D.C. Council, in which they express concern over the city’s extension of alcohol-serving hours during the inauguration. Apparently the senators feel that the change in policy will create new challenges for law enforcement, which could distract police from more important inaugural duties. The Post also notes that the interplay between the exemption and voluntary agreements between alcohol sellers and ANCs is still being worked out; it’s conceivable that only the establishments not subject to such agreements will be able to take advantage of the later last call.
New Details in Arlington Shooting: The case of Willie Donaldson, who shot a man to death in his Arlington home then promptly reported it to the police, continues to get more “Law & Order”-ready. The Post reports that Donaldson knew the victim casually, and may have been acting in self-defense. WJLA, meanwhile, has more lurid details, alleging that Donaldson met the victim and his girlfriend after arranging a paid sexual encounter with them over Craigslist.

This Day In DCist: One year ago we lamented the lack of enforcement of the District’s yield-to-pedestrians-in-crosswalks law and noted that area food banks could really use your help this time of year. Also, we saw Ted Leo!
