MUSIC: Singer-songwriter Elliott Murphy has been living as an ex-pat in Paris for nearly two decades now, and though he’s been better known as a novelist, journalist and producer in recent decades, he still manages to average nearly an album a year on the side. He’s at the intimate Velvet Lounge as part of his first U.S. tour in eight years, likely making him the first artist to play the U Street club who has recorded with both Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel. With Jann Klose, $15, 9 p.m.
READING: The DCJCC is holding a book discussion with New Yorker cartoonist Mort Gerberg titled, Last Laughs: Cartoons About Aging, Retirement…and the Great Beyond. His book compiles the work of many cartoonists “confronting, illuminating and celebrating the inevitabilities of life.” $9, 7:30 p.m.
MUSIC: Did you love the Young@Heart documentary from earlier this year? Perhaps your heart might also be melted by the Encore Chorale, a singing group of adults over the age of 50, which is performing holiday standards at the Kennedy Center’s Millennium stage. 6 p.m., free.
THEATER: Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind, the Neo-Futurists’ wildly popular jukebox style review of mini-comedy plays from 2007’s Fringe Festival (read our review), is back at Woolly Mammoth Theater for a three week run. Tickets are $30 for tonight’s 8 p.m. performance — if you don’t go tonight, buy some tickets for another showing, it’s well worth it.
