There was a third water main break of the week today, this time in the 1800 block of U Place SE. The 8-inch main break was first reported at around noon today, and is affecting 30 homes and rerouting traffic in the area.

With the entire country’s eyes on Washington this weekend, is there anything the city can do to prevent more mains from breaking during the inaugural festivities? Via WJLA, WASA says it is going to send crews across the city Saturday to check on water mains that could break and create traffic problems early next week. Outside contractors will also be on call, and on Inauguration Day, WASA crews will be placed in each quadrant of the city to reduce response times if there is an emergency.

Other than that, collective fingers crossed?
