James Calder reports from Dupont Circle:
A large inflatable George W. Bush likeness was the subject of much attention in Dupont Circle around 1 p.m., as part of an “Arrest Bush” protest. Crowds of onlookers watched, cheered and snapped photographs as random people picked up a pair of shoes or boots from a large pile of old footwear at the base of the giant W and tossed them with great force, aiming mostly for his head and Pinocchio-style nose. Adding to the mirth, Bush suddenly collapsed at one point, as the generator supplying the air ran out of gasoline.
Dupont Circle was generally crowded this afternoon, giving it the feel of people out shopping before Christmas (perhaps it’s just all the well-to-do types in fur hats). The Starbucks right at the Circle was as crowded as ever, with one laptop user proudly celebrating the historic occasion.
