Via AlertDC, there is a broken 12 inch water main on 7th Street NW between D Street and Indiana Avenue NW. WASA crews are already on the scene working to repair it — if you go by there, please let us know what it looks like — email tips(at)dcist from your smartphone.

The 7th Street corridor is a very popular choice for walking to the Mall this morning, so this is potentially one of the worst places this could occur. This is the fourth water main break inside the District since January 12.

UPDATE 7:37 a.m.: DCist’s Lynne Venart has been at 7th and E Street NW since 7 a.m., and says she’s been stuck in a crowd that isn’t moving since then. We’ve advised her to try to head toward 12th Street, and suggest you do the same.
