We’ve learned that the list of witnesses at this morning’s hearing on legislation to grant the District a voting seat in the House just got much more interesting. On top of a predictable panel of supporters including Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), former Virginia congressman Tom Davis and Leadership Conference on Civil Rights President Wade Henderson, two of our favorite foes will argue against it — Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Tex.) and Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Ut.).

You’ll remember Gohmert from a memorable performance during floor debate on the bill in 2007, when he opined that D.C.’s residents don’t need a representative because the 435 members of the House are already looking out for our best interests. We made him our honorary congressional representative, and readers flooded his office with constituent requests.

Rep. Chaffetz has made a name for himself for both sleeping on a cot in his office to save money and for having aggressively come out against the legislation, even though it would also grant his own state an additional seat. Chaffetz, a first-term congressman, defeated Chris Cannon, who supported the measure. The hearing starts at 10 a.m. and will be webcast.
