On the heels of yesterday’s officer-involved shooting on 7th Street NE, the Metropolitan Police Department says it had another police shooting today, this time at 16th and Kalorama Road NW, near the top of Malcolm X/Meridian Hill Park. Inspector Edward Delgado sent out first word of the shooting via the 3rd District email list: “The officer was assaulted by a suspect and the officer fired his service weapon in self defense. The suspect was taken to a local hospital where he is being treated for a single gun shot wound. The officer sustained head wounds and was taken to a local hospital. The investigation continues at this time,” he wrote just after 1:30 p.m. today. In response to inquiries for more details about the shooting, Delgado said he’d send us the press release when it became available—in other words, the MPD has yet to release more information. We’ll update as soon as we get it.
