Good morning, Washington. It looks like the weather is going to be ridiculously pleasant outside today — cloudy, maybe, but with temperatures that could climb as high as the seventies(!). Of course, later in the week it’ll get cold again, and rainy, and then the remnants of that line of storms out west will roll in and probably level the city. Until then, try not to feel too weird about wearing short sleeves in February.
WASA Chief Fails to Reassure: Yesterday’s testimony by Jerry Johnson, general manager of the D.C. Water and Sewer Authority, is unlikely to make anyone feel better about drinking District tap water. The Post reports that when asked, Johnson said that he would let a child drink city water, but that he didn’t know if he would advise the public to do the same.
Man With Gun Arrested At Capitol: NBC4 reports that a 64 year-old Louisiana man was arrested at the Capitol yesterday after an unregistered gun was found in his truck. Alfred Brock drove up, said he had a delivery for President Obama, and was in custody shortly thereafter. The Capitol Police say he didn’t make any specific threats, so at the moment he’s just facing weapons charges.
Kaine Says GOP Reneged On Smoking Ban: Apparently Tim Kaine thinks that the recently-passed Virginia smoking ban is as toothless as we do. The Washington Times has the details. According to the governor, Republican legislators went back on an agreed-upon deal, attaching amendments that weakened the bill. Kaine says he’s optimistic that the legislation can be salvaged, but hasn’t ruled out a veto and another attempt.
