Morning, D.C. What’s on tap this weekend? Well, some absolutely gorgeous weather, for one. The forecast for both today and tomorrow calls for highs well into the seventies — quite the turnaround from last weekend when we were all hunkered down, wondering whether we should go get milk from the corner store. Since we have to give up an hour we could spend sleeping, hanging at the bar, or riding Metro home from hanging at the bar in exchange for more daytime light, it’s only fair that the weather’s cooperating with a little taste of spring to come.

In other news this morning:

>> Maryland lawmakers are concerned about whether or not the proposed new stadium in Prince George’s County for D.C. United would be able to generate enough revenue to cover state-issued bonds for its construction. As one delegate to the state legislature put it, “We’re crying broke and making funds for an entertainment venue. It’s bad timing, no matter how you try to couch it.”

>> The D.C. National Guard is trading in its fleet of outdated, Vietnam-era Huey helicopters for six new Lakota choppers, which could be used as air ambulances and for evacuations across the country. The purchase of the Lakotas is being taken as a sign that the Guard — which has played an ever increasing role in domestic affairs since September 11 — is gaining in stature.

>> The National Park Service has plans to update confusing signage on the National Mall.
