Hot scoop from WTOP’s Adam Tuss: D.C.’s SmartBike shared bicycle program is going to expand from 10 to 50 racks, meaning an increase from 100 to 500 bicycles, by the end of this summer. New racks are planned all over the city, including spots in Adams Morgan, Columbia Heights, Capitol Hill, Anacostia and Georgetown. DDOT is planning to use $3 million worth of federal stimulus money to pay for the expansion. The SmartBike pilot program has been a pretty big success so far, with around 1,000 users already subscribing to use the existing 100 bicycles for $40 a year.
